Is it an Alien or a Dinosaur?

IMG_8105
This is a “Wheel Bug”, part of the Assassin Bug family. It eats other insects, including caterpillars. It has a fang on the front of its head that it uses to “stab” its prey. It WILL “stab” humans if it is handled casually or annoyed. The “stab” from its fang is very painful.

I encountered this strange looking creature on the bridge as we were crossing Sunday morning on our walk. I’ve never seen anything like this before, so I’m incredibly glad the shot came out so well.

Bud and Bloom

The bud and the bloom. The color is so vivid and rich. I always look forward to this bush blooming in the neighborhood.

Something about these new leaves, that had fallen from a tree, caught my eye. The texture of the leaves created an interesting pattern, caught the light, created shadows.

Beauty Revealed

I just happened to look down at the Iris that had fallen over and noticed a baby bunny, hiding among the plants in the morning sunshine. I couldn’t resist photographing and sharing him. 🙂

Lovely Color

There is one bush, with these beautifully colored flowers, among a hedge of deep purple azaleas. They stand out and attract the eye. Can’t pass by without snapping a quick shot. 🙂

A Hawk’s Eye View

IMG_7726a

I’m not sure what made me take my camera outside that day, two weeks ago, but once I was situated on my bench and Kodiak was playing, the hawk flew into the backyard and landed in the tree at the corner of the yard. He was obscured behind a branch, but I was able to get a couple nice shots of his head and eye. He stayed only a few moments, then flew off, up toward the hill where I spy him most often.

Soaring Wings

IMG_7622a

Every time I see this ‘guy’ I choke. I forget that I have the camera hanging around my neck. By the time I pull it up, he’s usually soared far from me, out of range. Today I was so in awe of watching him, I let him fly right over my head, just gliding beautifully. When I had shot three or four shots of the blue sky and nothing else, I caught him on the edge of frame. I cropped out the tree and sky to enlarge him a bit. I’m working on getting a good shot. I’m just so in awe of how beautiful he is, that I stare rather than snapping any shots… LOL
